Did you know that there are more than 500 animals at Wellington Zoo? Every day, our Keepers make sure that every animal is receiving great care to make sure they are living a good life here at the Zoo.

One key aspect of animal care is behavioural enrichment – activities which help keep their bodies and brains active. Enrichment encourages them to use their senses, and enhances their behavioural, physical, social, cognitive, and psychological well-being.

Animals naturally spend a lot of their day foraging for food, so enrichment can encourage this behaviour. Other forms of enrichment can include introducing new scents and novel objects to encourage animals to investigate their environments.

The generosity of people like you can help provide new equipment like boomer balls and puzzles to create activities for your favourite animal to keep them happy and healthy.
